Litmus Paper Strips for Soil Acidity pH Testing 80pcs

Litmus paper strips for determining soil acidity in solution. Measurement range 1 - 14.

Soil reaction is the degree of acidity (H+) and alkalinity (OH-) of the soil solution. Soil reaction is expressed by the pH number – the negative logarithm of the H+ ion concentration in the solution. If there are too many of these ions, they occupy all the free sites on soil particles, preventing the ions necessary for plants – nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus and others – from attaching there. These nutrients remain only in the soil solution and are quickly washed down to deeper soil layers. The lower the pH number, the higher the degree of soil acidity.
Soils are divided into 6 groups according to their acidity:

Very acidic soils pH < 4.6 (red)

Acidic soils pH 4.6 - 5 (orange)

Moderately acidic soils pH 5.1 - 5.5 (yellow)

Slightly acidic soils pH 5.6 - 6 (light green)

Slightly acidic to neutral pH 6.1 - 6.5 (blue-green)

Alkaline or basic soils pH > 6.5 (blue-violet)

Most garden plants grow in slightly acidic or neutral soils. Acidic soils are neutralized by liming. Materials used for liming include – chalk, dolomite flour, lime, ash, etc.
