Remove the loose part of the old soil from around the roots. Place a drainage (expanded clay) layer at the bottom of the pot, and on top of it a layer of fresh soil. Place the plant in the pot and fill the pot with the new soil. For very old cacti, only the top part of the root ball may be replaced. After repotting, water cacti and succulents only after 2 - 3 days.
