The ripe berry is round, 1.25 - 2 cm in diameter, with a smooth, glossy surface, yellow with an orange hue, juicy flesh containing many small yellowish seeds. The flesh is covered by a transparent skin, which must be peeled before eating. Peru physalis has a sour and slightly sharp flavour. Can be eaten fresh, cooked into purees, added to desserts, or used to make syrups and jams.
